The Equestrian Services are administered by Kelly Koetters, DVM.  Dr. Koetters graduated with a B.S. in Animal Sciences (Pre-Vet Option) with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 2003. She went on to obtain a B.A in Chemistry at Quincy University in 2004. She graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine with my DVM in Pomona, CA, in 2009. Dr. Koetters worked for Banfield the Pet Hospital (small animal) from August 2009 to October 2010, due to a lack of equine specific jobs in the local Quincy area. She spent the majority of my final year in veterinary school focused on equine medicine. Kelly performed externships at Rood & Riddle in Lexington, KY, Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Alamo Pintado, CA, Equine Veterinary Specialists in Norco, CA, and with Dr. Schilling, an equine dentistry expert, in Riverside County, CA.

Dr. Koetters' focus is solely on equine care.

What Dr. Koetters loves About Horses (versus bunnies, etc.):
She had the opportunity to be an intern in undergraduate school at the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Shingletown, CA. Dr. Koetters had known before that she wanted to be a veterinarian, but that is when she knew she wanted to specialize in horses. While there, Dr. Koetters learned about natural horse behaviors and how to use these to train 4 immature horses over the summer. She also was able to observe the beauty of horses in the wilderness. Dr. Koetters adopted one of the young mustangs, Beau, as her first horse, who is 9 years old and still kicking ;) today! She recently had to put down her Paint mare Dixie due to old age.

Who we serve:
We service those in the surrounding 100 miles of Quincy (Dr. Koetters is only licensed in IL for now) with companion equids that need routine prevention services or emergency care.

How Our Equine Services are Different:
Dr. Koetters travels to the client/patient rather than them having to trailer to a hospital, yet if a patient needs hospitalization, Dr. Koetters can still refer them to a hospital, such as the University of Illinois.
